The Sculpture is Already there, You just have to find it

There is an interesting concept that I have begun thinking about lately.

“When we create, we step aside and let the thing that is inside of us come out.”

The only way it can come out, is if you willingly and constantly, daily sit down and do something that will allow that something to come out.

If I sit in front of the TV, nothing is going to come out. Actually, something is draining out – my life.

The art is already in there. The Sculpture is in the Stone. Here is a quote from Michelangelo
Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.
I have to tap into it. God or the creative-ness inside of us shows up for the disciplined person, not the person who just tinkers at something.

What about this quote from Keith Richards:

“The idea that I created this piece of music is kind of pompous. Music is everywhere, all you have to do is pick it up. It’s like being a receiver.”

Julia Cameron has called it ‘channeling’ – letting the thing – the creative ness –  the story within you –  tell it self… like you are the typist in the courtroom, just typing down what is said. You are standing back just recording what you hear and what is being relayed to you.

Do you think of Creativity as “YOURs”… or do you think of creativity as something that is given to you – like a gift?

I’d love to hear your thoughts! The best place to do that is on Twitter. Send me a DM!
