4 Things to Remember if You Struggle with Porn

Porn can screw up your life, royally.
It’s easy to find porn today, and it seems exciting, but then it becomes a dark burden. You want to be free, but you can’t make a break. You are alone, frustrated and hopeless.

I felt the same way for years, but I want to encourage you that there is a way out.

1. Admit You Have a Problem

There are thousands of people who struggle with porn.
It’s become so common that people don’t even bat an eye when you say you have a problem. But it can make you feel alone and full of shame — like you have no where to turn.
When you admit you have a problem, you’ve made a powerful first step out of porn’s grip.

2. Find Others You Can Trust and Rely On

Once you have admitted your struggle, look for those who are traveling a similar path.
If you can talk with someone further along the road than you, you can ask them questions when you feel tempted. You can call them when you feel like you want to act out.
You can use their strength when you are weak.

3. Confess Your Struggles

There is healing in confession, even though it feels like you are going to die.
When you confess your struggle to another safe person, there is a lifting in your spirit that I can’t explain. You’ll feel lighter in your soul, seen by another human, and not as burdened with heaviness.
Confession heals when it is partnered with prayer.

4. Heart Change Comes From the Inside Out

Filters and blockers on your devices are a great tool, but they don’t change you.
You have to realign your thoughts and beliefs for true heart change. It takes time and patience — plus some work letting go of the hurts and triggers that cause you to act out.

Be encouraged though — Change is possible!
